Why are most perfume bottles made of glass, so fragile and distressing?
Glass bottles are more stable compared to plastic bottles, as they are less likely to react with other substances; whereas, plastic has relatively lower stability and can corrode over time when exposed to acidic or alkaline substances.
Perfume should not be stored in plastic bottles because it contains alcohol. Most plastic bottles are made from polyethylene or PET. Over time, polyethylene can dissolve significantly in alcohol, affecting the fragrance of the perfume. In severe cases, this can even cause skin allergies. PET is a new type of high molecular polyester material, but if stored for too long, the alcohol will gradually evaporate and react with the plastic, causing the perfume to deteriorate.
Glass bottles have a better texture. Whether it's frosted glass or regular glass, they both exude a sense of elegance and sophistication, and feel heavier in the hand; whereas, plastic bottles are generally lighter.
Perfume contains some amount of alcohol, which is a volatile substance. Therefore, when choosing perfume packaging, it is essential to use glass bottles with good sealing properties.
During daily use, glass bottles do not deform easily due to squeezing or collisions, while plastic bottles can be easily deformed by pressure and may rupture, leading to the loss of perfume.
In summary, glass perfume bottles are superior to plastic bottles in terms of appearance and usability. Glass bottles also better meet the conditions required for storing perfume, which is why most perfumes are packaged in glass bottles.
